Transformative Pathways is an independent feminist organization officially registered in France and Syria. We lead comprehensive efforts to support and empower women and girls in contexts of conflict and post-conflict recovery. Our work spans local, national, and international levels—including host communities and displacement camps—and is guided by direct needs assessments and field research to ensure context-specific, responsive interventions.
Today, we are recognized as a key actor in working with women survivors of detention and gender-based violence. We lead specialized programs in psychosocial support, the creation of women- and girl-friendly spaces, political and economic empowerment, protection, and civil peacebuilding. Our projects are not simply for communities, but from within them—where women and girls are partners in planning, implementation, and decision-making.
Our experience has been documented in academic references (…), and we have contributed to reshaping the feminist narrative around justice and survival in Syria, as part of a broader movement striving for more inclusive and equitable social and political change.
Yet our strong presence today stems from a very different beginning. In 2017, our idea was born from a personal experience—from the long silence surrounding women survivors of detention and the absence of safe and supportive spaces. The experience of former detainee Walaa Ahmadou marked a turning point. Her vision, captured in a simple but powerful phrase—“Humanity is indivisible”—became our compass.
From there, we began to organize. We formed a collective core, opened centers, built relationships, and moved forward with steady steps toward change—not driven by intentions alone, but by shared action. Along the way, we realized that liberation is not enough on its own. We need new pathways—alternative, just, and sustainable.
That is how our vision evolved, and with it, our name and identity.
We were no longer only seeking survival, but exploring how to live—and find meaning—after survival.
From the initial idea that emerged as “Free Me”, we have grown into what is now Transformative Pathways.
A name that reflects who we were, what we’ve always believed in, and what we now strive for.
A name that affirms:
Justice is not a single act, but a continuous process.
Healing is not a straight line, but a collective, intersecting journey.
Women do not need saving—they need safe spaces, living solidarity, and systems that enable them to lead.
Transformative Pathways is not just an organization.
We are a movement that believes in the power of “we.”
Together, we continue to build possible alternatives, and we open the road toward a future that is not recycled—but reimagined
